Gary Dickinson

May 11, 1960 — May 24, 2014

Gary Dickinson, 54, Wausau, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 in the loving arms of his two sons and surrounded by his family and friends. Even after his cancer diagnosis several years ago, Gary remained positive and hopeful and continued to love life and living it to the fullest.

Gary was born May 11, 1960 in Wausau to the late Lloyd and Nancy (Kelch) Dickinson. Since the age of 16, he worked for Wausau Metals (Window & Wall) in the shipping department. In his free time, Gary was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting with his sons, uncles, cousins, and friends in the Willow Flowage area. During fishing season, he could be found by his favorite trout streams.

Gary's large stature and imposing exterior was dwarfed by his outgoing and friendly personality. He made friends fast, was well liked by all those who met him, and often put others before himself. Gary's sense of humor, flippant jokes, and his booming laughter will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known him.

Gary is survived by his children, Gary (Melodi) Dickinson II, Tony Dickinson and Michelle (Terrell Thompson) Freymuth; grandchildren, Terrell "Rell" and Desirae; siblings, June (Nick) Vangalis, David Dickinson, Rita (Myron) Wisnewski and Lori (Bill) Gillingham, and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Dickinson.

The family would like to thank the staff from Marshfield Clinic, St Clare's, and UW Madison Oncology for their care. We are also thankful for the guidance from Aspirus Hospice, as well as the loving care given by his niece, Sandra.

Lunch and memory-sharing will begin at 12:30 pm. on Sunday, June 1st at the Eagles Club (1703 S. 3rd Ave, Wausau). Pastor Gary Schultz from Trinity Lutheran Church will lead us in a Celebration of Life ceremony at 2 pm. Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, is assisting the family with the arrangements; you may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com.
