Dora Schilling

March 4, 1914 — January 1, 2011

Dora L. Schilling was a kind, gentle woman who touched the lives of many children through her teaching career. A 1932 graduate of Wausau Senior High School, Dora then attended Marathon County Normal School graduating in 1933. She began teaching 1st through 8th grades in various one room school houses in the towns of Hewitt, Easton, Texas and Wausau. She furthered her teaching career by graduating from Central State Teacher's College in Stevens Point and completed advanced study in reading from UW River Falls. After 40 years of teaching, Dora retired in 1975 from Hewitt-Texas Elementary School.
Dora was born March 4, 1914 in the town of Wausau to the late Charles and Anna (Stolze) Kittel Sr. On June 12, 1937, she married Arvin "Slim" Schilling in Wausau. The family enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Post Lake where Dora's favorite pastime was fishing off the dock. She was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles, needlework, craftwork, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens.
At the age of 96, Dora past away on January 1, 2011 at Homme Home of Wittenberg.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Clara) Schilling of Wausau, Alan (Shirley) Schilling of Ringle, one daughter, Linda (Rodney) Wendorf of Schofield, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one brother, Charles (Doris) Kittel Jr. of Minocqua, one sister, Elsie Volkman of Wausau and a daughter-in-law- Marilyn Schilling of Wausau. Dora was preceded in death by Arvin "Slim", her son, Eugene, two brothers, Art and Norman Kittel and two sisters, Mamie Schwede and Myrtle Kittel.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Mission Evangelical Church, T12780 N. Cty Rd. WW, Wausau. Elder Richard Ostwald will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
