Wendell Allen Hackworth

Wendell (Jake) Allen Hackworth, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Jake was born on February 22, 1938, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to Ransom and Elva (Tackett) Hackworth. He was the second of ten children and was raised with the values of faith, hard work, and devotion to family that guided him throughout his life.

On October 10, 1959, Wendell married the love of his life, Connie Van Buskirk. Together they shared a loving marriage spanning more than six decades. Jake and Connie settled in Rocky River, Ohio to raise their only child, Craig. They were surrounded by many wonderful friends and family.

After leaving the family farm in Vanlue, Ohio, Jake attended technical college receiving a degree in medical technology. He worked in hospital laboratories and teaching until joining Fisher Scientific in 1968. He would start as a sales representative and ultimately ascend to assistant branch manager for the Cleveland office.

Throughout his adult life, Jake enjoyed golfing and fishing. Jake was active in Free Masonry throughout his entire life. He was a member in good standing with Lakewood Lodge No. 601 and the Al Koran Shrine until his passing.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents Ransom and Elva (Tackett) Hackworth and eight of his nine siblings.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie; his son, Craig Hackworth (Sarah); and his cherished grandchildren, Samuel(Renea) and Olivia.
