Ruth Ann Thompson Heidemann, 93, of Wausau, WI, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, surrounded by family.
She was born on June 29, 1932, in Merrill, WI, to Ben and Ruby Thompson. From an early age, she was known for her kindhearted determination, humor, love of children. Her devotion to her family was never-ending. Her 72-year marriage to George William Heidemann was a partnership of struggles and resilience, rewarded with true love and happiness.
Ruth worked hard to build a life filled with love and purpose. She dedicated her career to teaching. Ruth's love and passion poured into every day and every lesson. The loving letters from her students are numerous. She was a genuine soul and would knit every student a pair of mittens for Christmas presents, and do whatever she could to make a child's life a little easier and happier. She got along well with so many friends nationwide. She was a Grey Lady to help others; she was in Sweet Adelines, and she belonged to the Homemakers Group (winning many prizes). She remained friends with many until their deaths. Ruth was also a part of the Tenth Street neighborhood group (from the '50s and the last survivor of mothers in that group). George and Ruth moved up from a motorcycle when they met, to having trucks, cars, living in Illinois and Virginia, as well as Wausau, and fulfilling Ruth's wishes to travel both in America and many places in Europe. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who found joy in caring for others. Her family and friends will remember her for her generosity, her laughter, and her wisdom.
She is survived by; a Sister, Nancy McLay, a brother, Roy Lee Thompson, daughter, Connie (Conradine) Heidemann, son, Tim Heidemann (Jaime Grasso), Grandson's, Jason (Dede) Gnatz, Jonathon (Haeley) Gnatz, Great Grandchildren, Hunter, Noah, Eleanor, Evelyn, and preceded in death by Parents, Ben and Ruby Thompson, Siblings, Ted, Don, Gloria, Elaine, Ralph, and Dave, Husband, George Heidemann, son, Thomas George Heidemann.
Memorial Services to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, October 18, Visitation starting at 10, service at one by Rev. Lance Holescher officiating. Helke Funeral Home 302 Spruce Street, Wausau.
Her legacy of love, faith, service, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her.
