Jim Greenlee

Jim Greenlee, 86, of Wausau, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026.

He was born on December 21, 1939, in Kimball, Nebraska, to the late Mauriel and Anne (Cappell) Greenlee. On May 22, 1993, he married Kathy O'Hearn. He had been previously married to Sally Mott. Jim attended Fort Atkinson High School, class of 1958. He graduated from UW Whitewater, with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration, class of 1964. He worked many years as a computer programmer for IBM of Wausau, retiring after 44 years of dedicated service. He lived in several places along his journey, but landed in Wausau to call his forever home.

He received much enjoyment going to the YMCA to do his “corporate workout”. Jim also enjoyed motorcycling, sometimes for a full week somewhere cross country, with his group of motorcycle buddies. He was a long-time member of the Wausau Lyric Choir, that he enjoyed immensely. It took Jim and Kathy on concert tours to places like Rome and Venice Italy in 2001, as well as England in 2004.

Jim, like the rest of us fellow cheeseheads, was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan, watching most, if not all games on tv. He would wear his Clay Mathews jersey for good karma. He would also celebrate most of his wins with a nice premium cigar on his back patio. Enjoying a nice cigar daily for Jim, was his version of doing yoga.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Heather Greenlee, several step-children, as well as several grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his parents, wife Kathy, and twin sisters, Kathleen and Kelly.

A small graveside ceremony will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau, on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11am.

Jim was always a good man. May he rest in peace.

A special thank you to the entire staff at Stonecrest Residence of Wausau, who made such a special effort to care for Jim over the past five years. And a big thank you to all the staff at Aspirus Hospital, who provided care for Jim up until his final days. I've seen firsthand, you all have difficult jobs to do and you do it with such exceptional, compassionate care. Our entire family thanks you for that.
