Emblem

Ramert Glenn Carlson, age 93, passed away on October 10, 2025.

Ramert was the eldest twin born to Edwin and Pearl Carlson in La Crosse, WI on August 24, 1932. As the eldest son, Ramert was a kind and loving brother to his twin sister Ruthie and younger sister Marge.

He served in the US Air Force from 1952-1956 and spent 4 years in the Air Force Reserves. Ramert Carlson met his wife, Ruth, while he was serving in the Air Force. They were married on November 26, 1955, in Elkhorn, WI.

Ramert graduated with a Bachelors of Science in teaching from UW-Whitewater in 1959 and his Masters in 1966. For his first teaching job he became a business education teacher and athletic director at Omro High School. In 1967 Ramert and Ruth moved their family to Weston, WI. Ramert began teaching at D.C. Everest where he worked until retirement in 1993. During his time there, he became an administrator and was awarded a WASVA award for his service.

Ray raised 5 children with Ruth, and one of their favorite activities was camping. As their family grew, so did the adventures. Their love of camping was contagious. When they had grandchildren, they too loved when they could spend the weekend in the camper with grandma and grandpa: canoeing, fishing and sitting around the campfire.

Ramert loved taking his children and friends out in his boat fishing. He spent opening fishing weekend with his friends and looked forward to the annual guy's fishing weekend with the Graaskamps and his sons and grandsons on Lower Long Lake.

Ruth and Ramert lived for their families and for each other. They did everything together. Ray drove their van, and Ruth always rode shotgun. She gardened, and he mowed. She baked, and he ate all the cookies.

As true Wisconsin Snowbirds, Ramert and Ruth spent 23 winters in Orange Beach, Alabama where they made lasting friendships. Ramert was a faithful member and volunteer at his church, St. John's Episcopal of Wausau and in retirement, Ruth and Ramert volunteered 8 years at St. Claire's Hospital Center.

As a veteran, Ramert had the privilege of experiencing the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2013.

He is survived by his children: Bob (Deb) Carlson of Kiel, Susan Carlson of Chanhassen, Mike (Carolyn) Carlson of Eau Claire, and Rick (Terri) Carlson of New Berlin; grandchildren: Sara Carlson, Dan Carlson, Anna (Brett Petrie) Carlson, Catie (Allen Prueher) Carlson-Prueher, Emily Carlson, Ashley Carlson, Megan (Ethan) Littel, Alex Carlson, and Jacob Carlson; great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Carter, and Sullivan Carlson, Booker Prueher, Bella Petrie, and Arnetta Littel; twin sister: Ruth Olson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Pearl; loving wife, Ruth Carlson; son, David Carlson; sister, Marge; and great-granddaughter, Matilda Carlson.
