Orville Thurs

Orville A. Thurs, 69, of Wausau died Saturday, September 6, 2008 at his home.

Orville was born August 25, 1939 in the town of Hamburg , to the late Gustave and Gertrude (Mueller) Thurs. He married Iris Strei on June 3, 1961 in Rib Falls .

Before retiring, Orville had farmed in the town of Hamburg and worked for Marth Wood Shavings. Orville was the supervisor for the town of Hamburg and on the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department. He served his church on various boards and committees. Since retiring, Orville and Iris liked to travel throughout the United States and Germany . He belonged to the Pommerscher Verein (German Club). Orville enjoyed playing Sheephead, bowling, was an avid Packer and Badger fan, took great pride in the care of his lawn, and collected ball caps and hat pins. Orville will be remembered for being a hard worker, fun loving, very generous and loved by his family, friends and anyone who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Iris of Wausau, one daughter, Sherrie (Barton Hinkle) Thurs of Herington, Ks., one son, Scott (Colleen) Thurs of Adams-Friendship, one grandson; Holland Thurs, 5 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, 1 step great great grandchild, and four brothers, Wilmer (Alladine),town of Hamburg, Norman of Athens, Harvey (Mavis), Weston, Elgart (Shirley), town of Hamburg, 4 brothers-in-law and 4 sisters-in-law.
