Myrtle Woelfle

October 29, 1939 — April 20, 2024

Wausau

Myrtle Clara Alma (Myrt) Woelfle, 84, of Wausau died peacefully on April 20, 2024 at Applegate Terrace Reflections.

On October 29, 1939 at dawn, God blessed William and Alma (Zocher) Czech with their third daughter.   She was born at home in the Town of Hamburg in Marathon County in Wisconsin and baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  She attended Barney School in Hamburg through 7th grade.  Myrt and her parents moved to Wausau in 1952 and they joined Our Savior’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.    She graduated from Wausau Senior High School in 1957.

She married Ronald Woelfle on August 15, 1964 in Wausau, Wisconsin.  They had 1 child, Wade, in 1967.  In the early years of their marriage, Ron and Myrt enjoyed bowling and archery, spending time with extended family at a cottage in Boulder Junction, WI and later enjoyed fishing and camping, especially at Woelfle Family Campouts at many different state parks starting in 2004.  She also enjoyed reading, gardening and watching her flowers grow, making sequined calendars, and doing crossword puzzles.  She loved popcorn and ice cream, talking walks, and keeping track of things with many lists.  She was employed at Wausau Insurance for 10 years in the 1950s and 60s.

In 1979, Myrt and Ron moved to Minocqua, Wisconsin and joined Trinity Lutheran Church.  She loved living in the Northwoods.  In 1986, Myrt and Ron moved to Cannon Falls, Minnesota and they both worked at Wausau Supply Company in Farmington, MN.  They moved back to Wausau in 1996 and rejoined Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.  Following this move, she worked at K-Mart for several years.  After retirement, she volunteered at Dime & Dollar Thrift Store and enjoyed visiting several elderly friends.  She loved people and especially enjoyed activities at church.   God, Jesus, her church and her family and friends were most important in her life.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Dianna Woelfle, her sister Violet Schmidt, sister-in-law Joan Woelfle and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents William and Alma Czech, an infant brother (Martin Czech), sister (Esther Kueking), and brother-in-laws (Fred Kueking), Gilbert Schmidt, and Richard Woelfle).

Viewing will be held on April 26 at Helke Funeral Home 302 Spruce Street in Wausau from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.   Another viewing will be held on April 27 at Our Savior’s Evangelical Lutheran Church 703 Flieth Street in Wausau at 10AM.  The funeral service will begin at Our Savior’s at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jeffrey Mahnke officiating.  Following this, burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park on Troy Street in Wausau.

Myrt is now at rest in heaven.
