Margaret Ruth Preisig, age 97, of Mosinee, formerly of Wausau, moved on from Earth to join her late husband, Ben, in Heaven, on July 21st, 2025.
Margaret, known as Marge to her friends, was born in Wausau, WI on June 11, 1928 to Frank and Martha Ziech. Martha passed away shortly after Marge’s birth, leaving a large hole in the family. Years later, Frank met a married Theresa, and their two families became one. Marge was fortunate to grow up with her siblings Art Ziech, William Ziech, Louise (Zeich) Lieb, Betty Lerch, and Donald Hanne.
Marge attended Zion Elementary school, followed by Horace Mann Middle School. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1947. After high school, Marge met the love of her life, Ben Preisig. The two were married in Dubuque, Iowa on July 1, 1948.
The Preisig’s made their home on the southeast side of Wausau, where they spent most of their married life. Early in their marriage, Marge worked in the office at Murray’s Machinery, and then as a homemaker as she and Ben welcomed children into their own growing family. The family were members of Grace United Church of Christ, where Marge sang in the choir and volunteered with the Willing Workers. Marge also spent over 50 years volunteering in the gift shops at Memorial Hospital, Wausau Hospital, and finally Aspirus Hospital.
Marge loved watching the Brewer’s play, especially when she could attend in person. In her younger years, she spent her time bike-riding and walking. A proud grandmother, Marge would always show up for her grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts, recitals, and everything in between. She is remembered as an incredible cook, able to create everything from her BLTs to memorable Thanksgiving dinners. Dessert was always a must, with cookies (especially her cut-outs) being a family favorite. Marge herself enjoyed a break from the kitchen every once and a while, stopping by the Mint for a Greek Salad and dinner, or breakfast at 2510, complete with Celebration Cake, preferably with her favorite color, purple, somewhere on the icing. As she got older, Marge could be found playing BINGO and card games with her friends. A thrifty shopper, Marge never turned down a good sale.
Marge is survived by her children, Sandy (Gary) Ciula, Heidi Fleurant, and Ben (Cheryl) Preisig; grandchildren Ashely (Teri) Sager, Stephanie (Cory Lamarra) Sager, Felicia (Tyler) Savinski, Will (Jennie) Fleurant, Jacob (Emily) Ciula, Alexandra (Michael) Hein, Natasha (Michael) Leair, Monica (Stefan) Waldrogel; great-grandchildren Mason, Eleanore, Beatrice, Charlotte, Miles, Alexander, Jack, Lainey, and Nico; and many beloved nieces, nephews and family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Martha Ziech, step-mother Theresa Ziech, brothers Art Ziech, William Ziech, Louise (Ziech) Lieb, Betty Lerch, and Donald Hanne.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 1 from 9:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Grace United Church of Christ, 535 S. 3rd Ave, Wausau, WI. Interment to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, 1501 Grand Ave, Wausau, WI.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Acorn Hill in Mosinee, Interim Healthcare, and Interim Hospice for the amazing care they took of Marge. They will be forever grateful for the care shown to Marge in her times of need.
