Obituary

Joyce Belle Quade, born April 26, 1928, passed away on October 17, 2026. Born in Solway, Minnesota, Joyce was a determined and kind woman whose life was marked by dedication, a love of reading, and an appreciation for what the world had to offer.

Joyce dedicated 30 years of her working life to Western Union, where she began working as a bicycle messenger at the age of 14. Her commitment and years of service reflected the determination for which she was known.

An avid reader, Joyce found great enjoyment in books and in sharing that love with others. She participated in an informal book club where members exchanged books, marking each book they had finished with their initials to ensure everyone had an opportunity to read it. She also enjoyed following sports, particularly Notre Dame college football. As a young adult, Joyce drove stock cars and loved racing. Later in life, she became a world traveler who appreciated every opportunity to explore new places. She also enjoyed swimming laps at the Health Care Center Pool three times a week, a routine she maintained until a few years ago.

At the age of 12, Joyce found a church and began attending on her own, starting a lifelong relationship with Jesus as her Lord and Savior. For the last 33 years of her life, she was an active member of Covenant Community Presbyterian Church in Rothschild.

Those left to cherish Joyce's memory include her dear friends Evelyn Schneider, Joyce Pickering, Marge Tice, and Pastor Jim Gates, along with many other church friends and neighbors.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Quade; her parents, Harry and Lena Huff; her brothers, Lloyd, Vern, Jack Harry, and Robert; her sisters, Ruby and Peggy; and her friend and neighbor, Dave Pickering.

Joyce will be remembered for her generosity, sense of humor, and magnetic personality, as well as the simple but meaningful ways she connected with others. Her life leaves behind cherished memories for all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026 with Pastor Jim Gates officiating.
