Helen Elizabeth Splitt, 89, passed away on June 5, 2025, at Mountain Terrace Senior Living in Wausau, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 426 Washington Street, Wausau. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service.
Helen was born February 21, 1936, in Wausau to the late Matt and Alma (Hoenisch) Gardner. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1954. Following graduation, she worked at Drott Manufacturing where she met Philip Splitt. Helen and Phil married on May 7, 1955, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Wausau. They were married for 55 years and raised three children together, Dan, Mary and Cathy. Phil preceded her in death on September 26, 2010.
Helen worked for the D.C. Everest School District for 20 years before relocating to Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1983. After Phil retired, they returned to Schofield.
Helen was a faithful, lifelong member of St. Paul’s UCC, where she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and she was active in Mother’s Club for over 50 years. She also worked in the church office.
Helen was proud of her family. Family brought her immense joy and pride. She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She was a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. Helen was an avid walker, particularly with her dogs. She enjoyed reading, embroidering, snowmobiling, camping, polka dancing, card club and travel with her family and friends. She was blessed with many wonderful friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phil; infant sister, Ellen; and her parents.
Survivors include her son Dan (Betty) Splitt, Sun Prairie; daughter Mary Splitt, Weston; daughter Cathy (Chris) Mayer, Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren Kari (John) Speakman, Sun Prairie; Jon Splitt, Madison; Michelle (Nick) Brannen, Des Moines, Iowa; Matt (Madison) Mayer, Fitchburg; great-grandchildren Myla and Caden Speakman and Elliot and Emma Brannen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Carolyn Jacobson; and brother-in-law Jim Finch.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Terrace Senior Living and Interim Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassionate care over the past three years.
