Gary Lee Gisselman, age 82, of Wausau, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
Gary was born on January 6, 1943, to the late John and Florence Gisselman. He was a proud graduate of the former Wausau Senior High School and went on to earn both his bachelor's and master's degrees in American History from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. While working at the Marathon County Public Library, Gary furthered his education, earning a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Gary devoted 35 years of his career to the Marathon County Public Library, serving as a librarian from 1970 until his retirement in 2005. His commitment to public service continued as he was elected to the Wausau City Council in 2006 and later to the Marathon County Board, where he served until his retirement in 2014. He was also a valued employee of the Marathon County Historical Society, where he could share his deep appreciation for local heritage.
A passionate historian, Gary had a special interest in both local and family history. He treasured the opportunity to visit his father's hometown of Arvika, Sweden, and the Pomeranian region of his maternal grandparents.
He is survived by his brother David and his wife Roxanne and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald.
Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church, 709 N. 6th St., Wausau. The Rev. Gjerde will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
