Gary Brandenburg was born on March 8, 1934 in Wausau, WI to Edward and Elsie (Treu) Brandenburg. Gary's father started the Boot and Saddle Club and Gary had his own horse, which he loved. After he graduated high school, he joined the United States Navy in 1956. Gary had to leave the military to help care for his father before he passed away. He met the love of his life, Marilyn Miller, in Nutterville and they got married on October 6, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau. Gary helped with his family restaurant, The Wagon Wheel, and eventually took over the family business. He retired in 2019.
Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping at Indian Mounds Campground, where he and Marilyn could relax and enjoy the sounds of nature. He will be remembered for his generous and loving personality. Gary always had a good joke to tell and have a good glass of wine. Most importantly, he loved his family deeply and was so proud of his children and grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Marilyn; children, Garrite (Pam) Brandenburg and Gay Brandenburg; grandchildren, Calvin, Chelsea, Cale, Alexander, Neville, Richard, and Elizabeth; brother, Dennis (Kay) Brandenburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Betty Young.
Special thank you to the staff at Tender Love and Care for their outstanding support and care for Gary.
