Elsie Sorges

Elsie was born May 1st 1909, in Wittenberg, WI, the daughter of the late Levi and Ida (Gilbertson) Thompson. She attended Grant Elementary and graduated from Wausau High School. On August 3rd 1935, she was united in marriage to Lawrence L. Sorges and together they shared 60 years of memories.

Elsie's faith was very important to her and after her retirement, she enjoyed participating in various circles and teaching Sunday school at her lifelong church, Immanuel Lutheran, Wausau. She worked for 37 years at Wausau Insurance as a claims representative. Elsie enjoyed the time spent with family at their cottage up north. Crocheting, embroidery, sewing, and crafts were a few of Elsie's many talents.

Seven years ago, Elsie left Wausau to live in Florida and eventually settled in Thornton, CO, near her granddaughters. However, Elsie took the time to keep in touch with friends in Wausau and always kept her home in her heart.

At the age of 102, Elsie Evelyn Sorges died December 2nd 2011, with her family by her side, at the Villas at Sunny Acres, Thornton, CO.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Joan (Dale) Rhyner, Lady Lake, FL; 3 granddaughters, Lori (Daniel) Leckner, Houston, TX, Becky Mackin, and Kerri Shields, both of Denver, CO; 2 great-grandchildren, Amanda (Brian) Collins and Jared (Corinne) Leckner, both of Denver, CO; and beloved great-great granddaughter, Katelyn Collins.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Raymond Thompson, Caroline Johnson, and Inga Sparr.

A celebration of Elsie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 8th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wausau. Reverend Sean Motley will officiate. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Family will receive guests at the church on Thursday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
