Earl Arnold Fehlhaber, 87, Wausau, was called to rest by his Lord on December 3rd 2011, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, at Marywood Center, Wausau. Earl was born December 31st 1923 to Arthur and Ida (Voigt) Fehlhaber.
He served in the United States Army from January 3rd 1943 to December 5th 1945, in the Southern Philippine Islands, Luzon, and New Guinea. On January 10th 1946, he was united in marriage to Alice Fisher, in New York City, NY. Earl worked at Fort James for over 36 years until his retirement in 1986.
Earl and Alice built a cottage on Clear Lake, near Rhinelander, where they and the family spent many weekends and vacations. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Alice, friends and relatives. He and Alice also enjoyed spending the winter months down South for about 15 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice; son, James (Sandra) Fehlhaber, Rockford, IL; daughter, Shirley (William) Smith, Wausau; son, Gary (Debra) Fehlhaber, Medford, WI; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Earl is also survived by his 2 sisters, Verna Mais, Divide, CO, and Edna (Roy) Zimmer, Florence, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clairmont and Eldon; sisters, Nina and Dorothy; and grandson, Daniel Fehlhaber.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 6th, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Wausau. Reverend Robert Edwards will officiate. Family will receive guests Tuesday, at the church, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the service.
