Don Hartwig

November 17, 1927 — April 15, 2007

Don R. Hartwig, 79, died Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Don was born Nov. 17, 1927 to Herman "Huntz" and Ruth (Hirsh) Hartwig, in Wausau. He married Barbara Smith on June 3, 1951 in Wausau.

Don worked for GTE for 35 years until retiring. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW Post 388. He was a longtime member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. His faith in Jesus was most important to him. Don enjoyed spending time with family, friends and in volunteering.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three daughters, Lynn (David) Littleton, Grand Prarie, Texas, Donnell (Clark) Pagel, Plover, and Cheryl (Michael) Walden, Oconomowoc; eight grandchildren, Kelly (Charles) Plasket, Arlington, Texas, Cortney (Clay) Sanders, Dallas, Texas, Quinn (James) Simmons, Plano, Texas, Jessica (Todd Miskowski-fiance) Pagel, Madison, Joshua Pagel, Plover, and Emily, Courtney and Taylor Walden, Oconomowoc; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Julia Plasket and Abigail Sanders; mother, Ruth Hartwig-White, Wausau; one sister, Beverly (John) Lorge, Weston; and many other loving relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman "Huntz" Hartwig and son-in-law, Ron Donham.


Services will be at 11am Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Bruce Lamont will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4pm until 7pm at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and again from 10am until the time of services at the church. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, therapists, transport people and all who helped in any way during Don?s illness. God bless all of you.
