Clairmont Fehlhaber

Clairmont "Steve" Fehlhaber, 90, formerly of Wausau, died Wednesday April 25, 2007 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wis. Clairmont was born December 25, 1916 in the town of Berlin to the late Arthur and Ida (Voight) Fehlhaber. He was a resident in the town of Berlin for twenty-five years. He married Mildred Sellin on October 12, 1940. Mildred preceded him in death on June 15, 1981. Clairmont married Marion Burns on May 21 1983, Marion survives. He resided in Rib Mountain and worked at Kraft Foods for fifteen years. Clairmont was the first fire chief in Rib Mountain from 1954-1957. He also built and operated a drive-in restaurant in Rib Mountain for four years. He was a past 2nd Vice President and charter member of the Rib Mountain Lion's Club. Clairmont moved to Racine in 1957 and was plant supervisor at Horlick's Corp. for seventeen years. He moved back to Wausau in 1977 and worked for Wausau Homes before retiring in 1980.

Clairmont was a member of AARP. He enjoyed snowmobiling, carpentry, gardening, dancing, deer hunting, and family and friends. Clairmont served in the 791st AAA AW-Bn assigned to the 9th Air Force Div. from 1943-1945. He was a life member of The VFW Burns Post #388, Wausau. He was formally a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, town of Berlin and was a council member of the church for six years. Until recently, he was member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau.



Survivors also include three daughters, Barbara (Michael) Hoye, Waterford, Sharon (Earl) Rapp, Fishers, Ind., Carol (Gary) Kralapp, Byron Center, Mich.; two sons, Charles (Gail) Fehlhaber, St. Cloud, Minn., Brian (Judy) Fehlhaber, Fort. Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; nine great step-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Karen Wysocki, Hatley, Judith (Arlyn) Maier, Ringle and Gloria (Wayne) Staszak, Harshaw; one step-son, Larry (Sandra) Burns, Kronenwetter; one brother Earl (Alice) Fehlhaber, Wausau; two sisters, Verna (Walter) Mais, Wausau and Edna (Roy) Zimmer, Florence, Ore.; and one step-sister, Elaine (Ernest) Suchon, Wausau.

Clairmont was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nina and Dorothy; one brother, Eldon; and one step-son, David Burns.



Funeral services will be 11am Monday, April 30, 2007 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. Burial will be in Friedenshain Cemetery, town of Berlin. Visitation will be Sunday, from 4pm until 7pm at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and will continue Monday from 9:30am until the time of services at the church.
