James E. Smith

October 8, 1947 ~ November 6, 2019 (age 72)


James E. Smith, 72, of Stevens Point, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 with his family at his side.

He was born in Fredericksburg, Texas on October 8, 1947 to JB and Mary Jo (Luxton) Smith. He joined the United States Navy on October 17, 1966 and served his country honorably until October 6, 1978. James met, fell in love, and married the love of his life, Wanda Webster, on October 16, 1982 in Sonora, TX.

He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in Junction, TX, retiring as a Supervisor in 2005. In 2015 he was honored to join the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. James was a member of the USS Kitty Hawk Alumni, a lifetime member of the Plover VFW Post 10262, and was a Freemason for 30 years in Junction, TX and Stevens Point, WI. He enjoyed watching boxing, horse races, and football. He was very active in the Boy Scouts, loved to host BBQ’s, go camping, hunting and fishing; and he loved his roosters. But most important to James was his family. He loved family get togethers, spending time with his grandkids, and creating memories with his wife and children, He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

James is survived by his wife, Wanda; his mother, Mary Jo (L.C.) Moore; children, Robbie (Larry) Grey-Moon of Wisconsin, Leslie (Jason) Poeske of Wisconsin, Keith (Dawn) Grey of Iowa, Bridger (Ashley) Smith of Wisconsin, and (Hon.) Lindsay (Robert) Ensley of Texas; grandchildren, Alex, Kirsten (Max), Rayne, Lily, Ian, Raven, Brendan, Kieran, Willow, Silas and Kinlee; two great-grandchildren, Shealyn and Ariel; sister Juanita Pounds; as well as several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, JB Smith and his aunt and uncle Buddy and Reba Adams.

A memorial service will be held at a later time in Junction, Texas. Family and friends may go to to sign the family guestbook.
