Joyce Elaine Schalow (Tesch), 84, of Eau Claire passed away at Grace Woodlands Assisted Living on June 8th, 2012, of complications from Alzheimer's disease. She was surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born July 9th, 1927 in Wausau. She married Walter A. Schalow on June 19th, 1948 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Wausau. She worked in a variety of jobs over the years and enjoyed being active. She was an excellent cook and especially loved making doughnuts, buns, pies, frying fish, and canning pickles. She took pleasure in spending time with her family, babysitting her grandchildren, and vacationing up north. Joyce had a big heart and her faith was her strength. Joyce moved to Eau Claire in 2006 to Grace Edgewood and in 2010 to Grace Woodlands.
She is survived by her children; daughters, Janine Schalow of Eau Claire and Sue (Len) Henkleman of Wausau and her son, Randy (Peg) Schalow of Eau Claire; her brother Gary (Karen) Tesch; five grandchildren, Heather, Noelle, Kristi, Phil, and Jenny; 2 great grandchildren Kaylie and Madisyn; and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Lillian Tesch, her sister Geraldine Horning, and her husband Walter.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 12th, 2012 at Helke's Funeral Home, Wausau. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with visitation one hour before. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Joyce requested donations be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Joyce's family would like to thank the staff of Grace Edgewood, Grace Woodlands, and the staff and volunteers from St. Joseph's Hospice for the wonderful and dedicated care they gave Joyce.
