Robert L. Umnus, 73, of Wausau, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Aspirus Hospice House under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born to the late Lawrence and Tillie (Wettereau) Umnus on September 17, 1938 in Wausau. Robert attended local schools while growing up and has lived in this area all of his life. He married the former Barbara Kloth on December 14, 1962 in Wausau.
Robert was a police officer for the city of Wausau for 27 years. He enjoyed his work and has many friends from his years that he worked in the city.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors in his spare time. He especially liked hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Rib Mountain Muzzleloaders, helped with hunter's safety classes, and with the Women in the Outdoors group. He also enjoyed woodworking and making furniture.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Timothy (Becky) Umnus of Wausau; daughter, Jane Umnus of Savage, MN; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Umnus, Cassandra Umnus, Nayanna Batham, and Johan Batham; brother, Donald Umnus of California; and sister, Beverly Umnus of Eau Claire.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Catherine Hickey.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, June 1, 2012, beginning at 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau, for a memorial visitation.
