Ona Gertrude Zimmerman (nee Crum) died on Saturday, April 14, 2012, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, at Kindred Healthcare (Colonial Manor and Rehabilitation Center) of Wausau.
Ona was born on January 16, 1915 to Iona and Marion Crum in Decatur, Illinois. Her family moved to Glidden, Wis. when she was a young girl. Ona dedicated her life to her family. They spent many hours enjoying Sunday dinners and playing board games around the kitchen table. She loved to read, work crossword puzzles, and knit. Ona loved to laugh, was caring, funny, and amazingly smart. Her children and family will miss her very much.
Ona married Herbert H. Zimmerman on December 7, 1940. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2003. They had four children.
She is survived by three children, Robert (Sharon) Zimmerman, William (Patty) Zimmerman, and Beverly (Michael) Janisch. Ona is survived by one brother, Charles "Elmer" Crum of Caledonia, Mich., and one sister-in-law, Rose Crum of Wausau. She and Herbert have seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Huland; six brothers; and four sisters.
Services will be held at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau, on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Steven Gjerde of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter, Wis.
