Verna Klinger

June 11, 1918 — January 13, 2008

Verna Klinger, 89, of Wausau was born into eternal life on Sunday, January 13, 2008 surrounded by her family.

She was born June 11, 1918 in the town of Maine to the late Arnold and Marie (Plautz) Schmeiden. On June 15, 1940, Verna married Alvin Klinger at St. John's Lutheran Church, town of Maine. Together they farmed in the town of Stettin. After moving to Wausau, Verna worked at Wausau Insurance Company before retiring. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church where she helped make many different quilts that were donated to Lutheran World Relief. Her first loves were God and family. Verna also had a love of crocheting, knitting, gardening, and flowers. She will be remembered by those closest to her through the beautiful blankets, doilies, and doll dresses she created.

Survivors include one daughter, Marlene Myer of Wausau, two sons, Dale (Patti) Klinger of Mosinee, Russell (Debbie) Klinger of Bayfield, 7 grandchildren, Lisa (Jon) Anderson, Vicki (Brent) Bernards, Rhonda (Mark) Haywood, Eli Klinger, Ezra (Summer) Klinger, Hannah Klinger, Doug Myer, 6 great grandchildren, Vanessa Anderson, Leslie and La Crecia Haywood, Shellie Klinger, and Emalee and Lucas Myer, one brother, Earl (Doris) Schmeiden, two sisters, Helen (John) Bauman and Elaine Steidinger and a sister-in-law, Arlene Klinger, all of Wausau. Verna was preceded in death by Alvin on November 9, 1975, and a granddaughter, Inga.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 17, 2008 at First English Lutheran Church. Reverend Jay Kamrath will officiate. Burial will be in Stettin Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on Unit C at North Central Health Care Facility and the nurses with Comfort Care and Hospice Services for the care they gave Mom. We especially appreciate the loving care and kindness of Donna Vander Waal and her staff at Vander Waal CBRF where they made Moms stay feel like home.
