Stuart Gartmann

Stuart Leigh Gartmann, 74, died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his home in Kronenwetter.

Stu was born August 18, 1940 in Wausau to the late Ferdinand and Mae (Harding) Gartmann. He served his country in the National Guard as a tank commander during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Stu was proud to earn a degree in Marketing from Northcentral Tech. During his life, Stu worked as a tool and die maker for Wausau Metals for over 30 years. Stu married Kathleen Fust on June 20, 1961 and were blessed with two children; Patrick and Susan. Stu and Kathleen were later divorced. He married Sally Wirt on November 24, 1977 in Vincennes, IN. Sadly, Sally died on April 1, 2010 after 32 years together.

Stu was a complicated and quiet man who certainly had his own opinions. He was a wonderful mentor and teacher for his children, enjoying passing on what he knew to them later in life. Stu enjoyed NASCAR and went to the races with Sally on many occasions. His appreciation of racing extended to his love of Corvettes and Harley Davidson motorcycles throughout his life. One of his favorite pastimes was spending Sundays with his son, Patrick, and going out to eat and socializing with friends at the Palms Supper Club and Hiawatha Restaurant & Lounge.

Stu is survived by his loving children, Patrick (Sherri) Gartmann and Susan Gartmann; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; first wife and dear friend, Kathleen Gartmann; and extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his half-sister, Bernice and half-brother, Clifford.

There will be a graveside committal at Pine Grove Cemetery at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 11th. There will be a gathering on Saturday, April 11th at 2:00 PM at the Palms Supper Club (5912 Business 51 S., Schofield, WI 54476) to celebrate Stu's life.
