Robert Huntington

February 22, 1922 — October 28, 2011

Robert Huntington was a kind, gentle man who loved his family and treasured his friends. He was a hard worker too. In his earlier years, he helped maintain the railroad tracks for the Milwaukee Road and even helped install the train tracks at Marathon Junction in Marathon Park. For thirty three years he worked in the yard at Brokaw Paper Mill retiring in 1986. Bob was a proud Army veteran serving in WWII. He fought in Germany and saw action in several campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. Bob was a lifetime member of VFW Burns Post #388.
Bob was born February 22, 1922 in Eau Claire to the late Ralph and Mildred (Holleron) Huntington. After moving to Wausau and serving overseas, Bob met Alice Bramm. They were married at Holy Name of Jesus Parish on August 24, 1949 and recently celebrated 62 years together. They enjoyed spending time with family, in their travel trailer, camping at Camp Holiday in Boulder Junction, where Bob was known for his famous campfires. In his younger years, Bob pitched on several fast pitch softball teams. He loved following the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. He was also know to the CB world as "Big Red".
At the age of 89, Bob passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Wausau Manor.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Wausau, his daughter, Jean (Rick) Stahl of Wausau, two grandchildren, Dan Elfe of Wausau and Beth Elfe of Green Bay and his sister, Ellen Richards of Wausau. He was further preceded in death by a sister, Roseland Russ and three brothers, Richard, Laverne, and Ralph.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Father David Rybicki of Holy Name of Jesus Parish will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with full military honors performed by the VFW. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
