Melvin Goff

Melvin Goff, 88, of Wausau, passed away quietly Sunday April 6, 2008 at Allison House, Schofield.



Melvin was born October 5, 1919 in Kalamazoo Co., Mich. to the late Rello and Ida (Munn) Goff. He married Eleanor Baker on June 22, 1940 in Battle Creek, Mich. Eleanor preceded him in death on January 18, 2008. Melvin served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII as a radio instructor. After the war, he returned to Battle Creek, Mich.,where he was a radio repairman.

Melvin and Eleanor moved to a farm near Schoolcraft, Mich. where he worked as a laborer to supplement his farming income and later became a licensed electrician and was the main maintenance person for Westab Corp. in Kalamazoo. In 1977 Melvin and Eleanor retired and moved to Wausau, where Melvin enjoyed traveling in their R.V., fishing, gardening, and playing the organ. He was active in the Country Corners square dance club and loved calling to the old time square dance songs.



Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Dick Schroeder) Dowty-Schroeder of Rothschild; three grandchildren, Jill (Dave Ball) Dowty of Rothschild, Andy (Penelope Fernandez ) Dowty of New York City, NY, and Tim Dowty of Tucson, AZ; three great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by one brother Walter.



Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday April, 12, 2008 at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. The Reverend Joy Nelson-Jeffers will be officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
