Maureen Burgesen

Maureen Burgesen, age 80, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2013 in Mesa, AZ. Maureen was born on May 9, 1933 in Slayton, MN to the late William and Merriam (Knutson) Jacobson. She was a graduate of Slayton High School. Maureen met Holger "Lou" Burgesen in Minneapolis in 1953. They were married August 28, 1955 in Slayton. Maureen and Lou lived in the Minneapolis area for twelve years where they had four children. Because of Lou's career, the family also lived in St. Louis, Washington D.C., Wausau and Sullivan, Mo. For the last seventeen years, Maureen and Lou have made their home in Mesa.
Maureen was a great homemaker and no matter where they lived she was active in church, civic affairs and managed several charitable organizations. She had a wonderful spirit, a sense of humor and was an inspiration to her family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Lou of Mesa, a daughter, Kristin of Madison, a son, Craig (Mary) of St. Louis, son-in-law, Dr Jaber Aslanzadeh of Simsbury, CT, four grandchildren, Anthony, Amanda, Farah and Aryana, a great grandson, Peyton, two sisters, Janet and Marian and brother, William. Maureen was preceded in death by a son, Michael and daughter, Kari.
Memorial services will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, town of Maine.
