Mary was born September 29th 1918, in Chicago, IL, to Walter and Mary Przewoznik. On June 28th 1941, she was united in marriage to Raymond Charles Bernas, Sr. She lived through the Great Depression and her husband being a prisoner of World War II.

After Raymond's return from the war, they moved to Wausau, where she was a wonderful, caring mother to her family, who all survive her, including five children, Ray Bernas, Jr., Ocala, FL, Jerry (Mary) Bernas, Sarasota, FL, Kenny Bernas, Madison, WI, Kathy Viegut, Wausau, and Jeff (Deanna) Bernas, Kronenwetter, WI; eight grandchildren, Brad (Julia) Bernas, Melissa (Kelly) Kempken, Mike (Katie) Bernas, Molly Bernas, Taylor Viegut, Lindsey Viegut, and Mason and Cedric Bernas; four great-grandchildren, Christoph and Therese Bernas, and Megan and Jacob Kempken.

Mary was a great homemaker, awesome cook, and worked for many years as a waitress at the Holiday Inn, of Wausau. She loved family celebrations, special occasions, and holidays. The focal point of an always growing family, Mary was always good natured and made you feel special. She enjoyed books, movies, travel, annual trips to Florida, and most of all her family.

Mary Bernas, of Wausau, died Tuesday, March 27th 2012, at Aspirus Hospital, surrounded by family and went to be with her Lord and beloved husband, Ray. She was 93 years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ray, in August 2004; parents, Walter and Mary; one sister, Helen Nigida; and two brothers, Joe and John Przewoznik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon, Wednesday, April 4th, at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Reverend Steven Brice will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Family will receive guests from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 3rd, at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.; and again Wednesday, at church, beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank Dr. Abrego and the Aspirus Wausau Hospital staff for the excellent care.
