Marian Epding

October 26, 1915 — March 25, 2015

Marian Delores Epding, 99, Wausau, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.

Marian was born October 26, 1915 in the Town of Alma to the late Erick and Florence (Stam) Erickson. She graduated from Merrillan High School. Marian met the love of her life and married Arthur Epding on June 25, 1935 in Neillsville. The couple was blessed with three daughters; Ardythe, Diane and Sally. Working was always very important to Marian. She started early on driving a taxi in Neillsville before later owning and running the West Side Hotel & Bar for many years and then Nature's Finest Foods with her husband. Sadly, Arthur died unexpectedly on March 28, 1989 after 53 wonderful years together with Marian.

Marian was always the well dressed, feisty matriarch of her family, known simply as "Grandma the Great". She dearly loved all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and taught them the values of hard work and service to their community that she lived by. In the community, she had been a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter in Neillsville, President of the Wisconsin Valley Shrine Association, Worthy High Priestess of the Bethesda Shrine in Wausau, Senior Regent of the Women of the Moose, Guardian with Jobs Daughters and sang often with the Senior Citizen Chorus. In addition, she was a 1996 inductee to the Wausau Bowling Hall of Fame. She enjoyed dancing, playing cribbage with family and sewing Halloween costumes and doll clothes. Marian loved to travel, going on many trips she saw the United States including Hawaii, went to Sweden and in 2009 at age 92 attended her granddaughters wedding in Jamaica.

Marian is survived by her loving daughters, Ardythe (Robert) Kamke, Diane (Jim Asplin) Schoeneman and Sally (Dennis) Barwick; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; 1 brother and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Grace United Church of Christ, Wausau. Reverend Wayne Drueck will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 29 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau; continuing on Monday at 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
