July 22, 1914 — October 15, 2008

Margaret Louise Goodwin, 94, formerly of Wausau, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh, WI.

Margaret was born July 22, 1914 in Wausau to the late Henry and Alma (Trotzer) Lowenstein. She graduated from Wausau High School and was very proud to have won the Kate Landfair Award for Outstanding Female Student. She married Everett E. Goodwin on June 20, 1936 in Wausau, where the couple lived and raised their family. They celebrated forty-two loving years together prior to his death on April 19, 1979.

Family was always the most important value that Margaret was raised with and passed on to her children. She stressed the importance of a good education to all of her children and also saw to it that they each learned a fine appreciation for music. Margaret worked for Pahlow Leather and Gifts for over twenty years. In her free time, she enjoyed working in her garden, reading, quilting, Bible study and cooking many wonderful meals for her family.

Margaret was a woman of strong faith and strong values and was a life-long active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. She was the head of the Sunday School Dept., started the vacation Bible school and was a member of the Quilting Society. She was also a past president of the YWCA and of the PTA. For her children, Margaret was active as a Cub and Girl Scout leader.

Margaret is survived by her son, Everett L. (Santha) Goodwin of Oshkosh; daughters, Patricia L. (David) Jensen of Woodbury, MN and Jill Ann Lowenstein-Goodwin of Pompano, FL; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister and life-long friend, Eleanor (Gerald) Rhyner of Wausau; and many more nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, LeRoy Lowenstein.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, October 20, 2008 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Rev. Vernon Dolde and Fr. Ian Montgomery will be officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Helke Funeral Home, and resuming on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s UCC until the time of services. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com .
