Lucille Mattmiller

November 28, 1940 — January 1, 2009

Lucille Edna (Walkner) Mattmiller was born on November 28, 1940, to the late Bill & Mary (Oestrich) Walkner, in the Village of Laona.  In 1958, Lucille married Donald Mattmiller in the Town of Phlox and later that year moved to Wausau. Lucille was extremely dedicated to family and devoted her time and energy to raising four children, Tim, Julie, Brian and Greg. She was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Lucille was an avid gardener and loved growing large vegetable gardens and tending to her backyard rose garden. She also sold Avon products in Wausau for more than 20 years and had many dedicated customers around the city. In 1987, Lucille was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), but she was fond of saying, “I have MS, but MS doesn’t have me.” She remained active for many years at home with her husband Donald’s assistance. In 2003, Lucille moved to the Marywood Convalescent Center in Wausau, where she received exceptional care from nurses and staff. In June 2008, Lucy and Don celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary with family. Lucy passed away peacefully on January 1, 2009 at Marywood Convalescent Center. The Mattmiller family would like to extend many thanks to Marywood for their compassionate care of Lucille. Survivors include husband Donald, her four children and Lucille’s seven brothers and sisters; John, Dorothy (Noonan), Kathleen (Zarda), Charles, Robert, Mary (Zich) and William. Lucille has eight grandchildren; Jennifer and Katie, daughters of Julie and John Drayna; Amanda and Thomas, daughter and son of Tim and Paula Mattmiller; Claire and Anna, daughters of Brian and Teryl Mattmiller; and Audrey and Ella, daughters of Greg and Jessica Mattmiller.
