Leo Zastrow

Leo Julius Edward Zastrow, 93, of rural Merrill, WI, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Benedictine Living Community.
Leo was born July 21, 1922 at Hamburg, WI to the late Carl and Nora (Krueger) Zastrow. He received his education in country school near Hamburg.
On June 16, 1945 he was united in marriage to Fern Grueneberg at Grace Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin. Leo and Fern made their home farming all their married life on the farm of Fern's grandparents in the Town of Berlin.
Leo loved logging, hunting, fishing, going to casinos, being with family and friends, and love his kitty's especially Blondie.
He was a simple farmer, and a very honest simple man. He made new friends wherever he went, It also seemed like he knew everybody. His mind stayed sharp up to the end. Leo would tell stories of his life. They were so vivid and detailed that you felt like you were right there. We are going to miss that great storyteller. We all love you and will always carry you in our hearts. " I wish you could have gotten that last haircut! You were looking forward to that pa"
Leo is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Fern, three children, Darlene (Gary) Balz of Rib Falls, WI, Charles Zastrow, Merrill, WI, and, Judy (Ken) Blaubach, Town of Berlin six grandchildren, Scott (Connie) Balz, Steven (Denise) Balz, Tracy (Jeremy) Gertschen, Michael (Angie) Blaubach, Robert (Andrea) Blaubach and Michelle Blaubach, ten great grandchildren, Taylor and Jordan Balz, Brianna and Brooke Balz, Brett and Ashley Gertschen, Bryce and Breck Blaubach, Conner and Cameron Blaubach, two sisters, Dorothy Westfall, Town of Maine and Avila Boelter, Milwaukee,
He was preceded in death by a son Gene, a brother Frank and a sister Dioma.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, Town of Maine with Rev. Nathaniel Biebert officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Town of Berlin Cemetery.
