Lawrence Bloomquist

November 8, 1921 — December 4, 2008

Lawrence Bloomquist, 87, Wausau, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Lawrence was born November 8, 1921 in Racine, WI to the late Everet and Olga (Luedtke) Bloomquist. The family moved to Wausau where he went to school and graduated from Wausau East High School. Lawrence served his country during WWII in the Navy as a machinist and had several close calls while in England and the surrounding waters. While in England, Lawrence met the love of his life, Anne Padmore, and the couple was married June 12, 1944 in London. The couple spent 64 wonderful years together, sharing their love of travel and visiting all of the lower 48 states, Mexico and Canada.

Lawrence was a good man, good father, and good friend to those who knew him. He gained the nickname “Honest Abe” as a testament to the kind of person that he was. Lawrence would do anything for anybody. He was a very loving and caring father who delighted in the addition of grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. During his lifetime, he was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the Paul Revere Lodge of the Masonic Temple in Massachusetts, and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include Lawrence’s beloved wife, Anne; sons, Gary Bloomquist of Wausau and John (Sue) Bloomquist of Thompson Falls, MT; daughter, Joyce (Henry) Relski of Yuba City, CA; four grandchildren, Scott Relski, Linda (Joey) Morales, Christopher Bloomquist and Heath Bloomquist; and great-grandchildren, Noah and Lola. He is preceded in death by his brother, Gerald.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau. Pastor Gary Forseth will be officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Helke Funeral Home, and one hour before the funeral services at the church. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
