Lacey Meinel

September 8, 1994 — January 11, 2009

Lacey Jo Ella Meinel, who was born September 8, 1994 , in Wausau , Wisconsin , passed away on January 11, 2009 .

Lacey was a girl of many interests and talents.   At age 3, she attended dance classes and later gymnastics. At age 6, she began figure skating and skated competitively in numerous competitions in Wisconsin , Illinois , Minnesota , Michigan and the Quad Cities . In 2006 she joined the Madison Energy Synchronized Team and was returning from a competition when the traffic accident occurred. She will sadly be missed by many people.

Lacey was involved in The Everest Eagles 4-H Club and was never afraid of challenging herself. Her awesome cake decorating garnered her many awards and she always looked forward to her next challenge. She was very proud of ginger bread lighthouse that she entered in last years fair in which she won Best of Show. She also made many decorated cakes for family and friends for birthdays, baptisms, and weddings.

Her love of animals was also reflected in her fair entries as she entered her cats Cinders, Einstein, her Ragdoll Cat and Tattoo a Bangle Cat that she just picked up and planned to enter in this summer’s fair. She enjoyed the interaction of her pets immensely, providing herself and her family countless hours of enjoyment.

She actively pursued outside interests including skating in Germany , Florida , and family vacations through out the United States , Cayman Islands , Mexico , and most recently spent three weeks in Alaska .

Lacey was easily befriended with many friends and has many long lasting relationships. She truly cared for all people, showing her warm heart and generous spirit. She loved going to see her three older brothers participate in their various sports and later followed her brother’s inspiration into soccer.

She was active in school, and was a member of the D.C. Everest Middle and then Junior High Student Councils as well as a member in the National Honor Society. In both the Middle and Junior High she played the Clarinet in the Band.

Lacey was an acolyte at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Schofield where she had been baptized and was looking forward to her Confirmation into the Church later this year.

On Saturday she was returning from a synchronized skating competition in Fond Du Lac when the mishap occurred as a result of a drunk driver. She passed away the following day.

Lacey will be sadly missed by her parents and her three older brothers, Tyler, 24, Chad, 22, and Keaton, 18; as well as, her paternal grandfather, Harry Meinel, in Mercer, and maternal grandparents, James and Marla Schroeder, of St. Germain; aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as, her many friends. She was pre-deceased by her paternal grandmother, Lois Kleinschmidt Meinel.

Her spirit lives on in eight different recipients of her donated organs which is a reflection of her helpful nature.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established to benefit the organizations Lacey was involved in.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. , Saturday, January 17, 2009 , at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schofield. The Reverend Ryan Wolf will be officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January, 16, 2009 , at the church, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com .
