Ken Pospychalla

January 26, 1921 — May 30, 2010

Ken Pospychalla lived a full and generous life. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served his country during WWII. As a skilled carpenter and craftsman he gave away many of his wood crafts to friends, neighbors, and relatives. Ken had the talent to either fix just about anything that broke or make a new one. When he wasn’t working as Equipment Maintenance Supervisor at American Can, he built homes in the Summer and hand craft beautiful Oak cabinets in the Winter. Woodworking was his passion and he was never happier than working in his woodshop.

Ken was born January 26, 1921 in Wausau to the late Andrew and Mariam (Dabbert) Pospychalla. After his service in the military, Ken came home and met Myrna Blood at a local dance. Falling in love, they married on June 21, 1947 at St. James Catholic Church, Wausau. Blessed with five children, Ken and Myrna enjoyed taking the kids traveling, camping, fishing, and to their Oneida county cabin. Raising his family in Rib Mountain, Ken was the town’s Building Inspector for 15 years. He was a member of VFW Burns Post #388 and American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10.

At the age of 89, Ken passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2010 under the care of Ministry Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Myrna of Rib Mountain, his children, Lyn (David) Zillman of Wausau, Christine (James) Scharch of Madison, Jerome (Kim) Pospychalla of Red Bluff, CA, Connie Dulas of Mosinee, seven grandchildren, Karrin (Andrew) Zillman-Moser, Kendra Pospychalla, Angela Dulas, Jacob and Joshua Pospychalla, Jamie Goulet, Jason Dulas, two great grandsons, Avery Zillman and Frank Moser, one brother, Patrick (Judy) Pospychalla of Ashland and one sister, Helen (Ralph) Ahern-Dyson of San Diego, CA. Ken was preceded in death by his son, James and a sister, Diana Lapp.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Reverend Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Ken’s Family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Ivan Schaller and staff for the years they cared for Ken and to the Ministry Homecare Hospice team for their kindness and support.
