Kathleen Mesun

November 22, 1926 — February 12, 2014

Kathleen Rautio Mesun took her final breath on Wednesday, February 12, as she slept peacefully.

Kathleen was born to Hilda and Aaron Rautio, on November 22, 1926, in Ironwood, Michigan. She was christened and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Ironwood. After graduating high school in 1945, she did a brief stint as a "Rosie the Riveter" at an aircraft plant in Ohio. She then moved to Chicago, where she worked as a secretary for the Eversharp Pen Company. There, her charm and good looks earned the title of "Most Beautiful Blonde at Eversharp."

While in Chicago, she met her husband, Van Mesun. The two were married on May 27, 1949, at Rogers Park Lutheran Church in Chicago. After the birth of their three children, the couple moved to Wausau, Wisconsin in 1960. In Wausau, Kathleen continued to work as a secretary and bookkeeper for Mesun Building Maintenance. They became members of First English Lutheran Church in Wausau.

Kathleen was a devoted wife, the ultimate hostess and pie crust maker, and cookie baker extraordinaire. She sent a card for every occasion and she always kept a full cookie jar. She was an avid reader; she loved to write and was brilliant with words. Her colorful flowerbeds bore testimony to her green thumb. She loved all animals, and was an active member of the Humane Society. Kindness was always on her tongue, and she had the fine-tuned skill of being able to turn any uncomfortable conversation into a discussion about the weather. Her brothers Wilbur and Edward and her parents preceded her in death.

Kathleen will be greatly missed by her surviving children, sons, Michael and Brian, and daughter, Michelle. Her grandchildren, Timothy, Ashley, Pierre, Gabrielle, Phillipe, and Dominique, will cherish fond memories of Grandma for a lifetime. Her great-grandchildren, Everett, Gwyneth, and another soon to be born, will carry her legacy. Her surviving brothers, James and David, are saddened at the loss of their only sister. Her friends, neighbors, and extended family will sorely feel her loss.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 22, at First English Lutheran Church, Wausau. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service.
