Juan Vargas

June 13, 1951 — September 18, 2010

Juan Antonio Vargas was a kind man with a gentle heart. He will be remembered as someone who always helped anyone in need and had a wonderful sense of humor.


Juan was born June 13, 1951 in Boquilla Del Refugio, Zacatecas, Mexico to Sabino Vargas Gallegos Sr. and Maria Esther Vargas Fernandez of La Boquilla, Zacatecas, Mexico. After coming to this country, Juan was a landscaper for 33 years. On November 28, 1992, Juan married Janet Pagel at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheboygan. They made their home in Marathon where Juan pursued his passion for horse riding and landscaping.


At the age of 59, Juan passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.


Survivors include his wife, Janet Vargas of Marathon, his parents, nine children, Juan (Tammy) Vargas Jr. of Plymouth, Sabino (Maria) Vargas of Plymouth, Graciella (Carlos) Romero of North Aurora, Ill, Sandra Vargas-Oliveros (Perfecto) of Aurora, Ill, Travis (Tammy) Vargas of Racine, Mandy (Brent) Vargas Smith of Atlanta, GA, Gabriel (Stephanie) Vargas of Winona, MN, Linda Castro of Sheboygan, Stevie (Pa) Vargas of Sheboygan, 19 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, six brothers, three sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Tyler, two brothers and one sister.


Funeral services will be Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Stettin. Rev. Phil Bogen and Father Bob Thorn will officiate. Burial will be in Stettin Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the church on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services.
