Joyce Guenther

Joyce Guenther's family was foremost in her life. She took care of Bob, Stuart, Wendy, and Mary Jo with great love and care. Even as her kids became adults she was always there to help. Whether it was cleaning, cooking, or simply ironing, Joyce quietly did what needed to be done and then some. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Joyce made their favorite meals and crocheted warm Afghans with that same love and care.
Joyce was born March 22, 1928 in Wausau to the late George and Clara (Zimmerman) Eschenbach. After graduating from high school, Joyce worked at Stieber Dairy and then in the office at Wisconsin Fuel and Light where she retired after 23 years of service. On August 6, 1949, Joyce married Robert Guenther at First Presbyterian Church, Wausau. They enjoyed golfing, downhill skiing, traveling, and playing cards. Joyce and Bob loved spending their winters in the warmth of Arizona. For several years, Joyce had also done volunteer work at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
At the age of 82, Joyce passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.
Survivors include her husband, Bob of Weston, one son, Stuart (Mary) Guenther of Marshfield, two daughters, Wendy (Greg) Fields of Golden Valley, MN, Mary Jo (Jeff) O'Dell of Deephaven, MN, seven grandchildren, Heather Stair, Amber (Ryan) Wilderman, Steffanie (Ryan) Handke, Nickolas Fields, Nicole, Sydney and Ella O'Dell, six great grandchildren, Alex, Clair, Cassie, Kylie, Collin, and Ella, and her brother-in-law, Charles Henkelman of Destin, FL. Joyce was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Henkelman.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 1, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church, Wausau. Reverend Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Helke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
