Gladys Gosse

June 3, 1939 — November 9, 2008

Gladys M. Gosse passed away on November 9, 2008 at her home at the age of 69. She was born June 3, 1939 the fifth child of Herman and Sarah Ida Lutzewitz in Tigerton , WI , and was named Mathilda Ida. At a young age she and her seven siblings were placed into foster homes in the Bonuel area. Mathilda and her sister Ethel were placed with Elmore and Amanda Peterson of Landstead and stayed under their wonderful care for almost three years when they were adopted by Walter and Meta Kuenzi of Abbotsford and had a great life. It was at this time her name was changed to Gladys Mathilda. All three “sets” of parents are deceased.



She received her education in Abbotsford and after graduation in 1957, she joined the work force at Employers Mutual of Wausau in the tabulating department for a year and a half.



In 1954 she met her future husband, Junior “Sam” Gosse and they were married on November 1, 1958 in Abbotsford. They moved to Horicon and both worked at Gardner Manufacturing and they were laid off in February of 1960. They returned to the home area and moved to Riplinger, then to Edgar and then Marathon City where she was a stay at home mom. While in Marathon City the White House Milk Co. closed its doors. Sam started working at Foremost Foods in Rothschild so they made a final move to Wausau in 1967 and are living in the same location yet.



When her children were older she again joined the work force spending 10 years as a manager of Stop-N-Go store on Thomas Street, then 10 years at Emmons Stationary and Supply as a clerk and then a billing clerk, and then 10 years at County Market where she retired from in 1995 – She also worked part time as a merchandiser for McCormick Spice at County Market, Super 29’s and Pick-N-Save in Cedar Creek Mall for the last 5 years before she retired.



She is survived by her husband, Sam, and her two children, her daughter Sonia (Peter) Gestner of Plover, WI and a son, Timothy (Donna) Gosse of Schofield; her grandchildren, Katie Cahill and Matthew Gestner of Plover and Julie Gestner of LaCrosse, three great-grandchildren, Colton Cahill, Jaydan Hanson, Ayedin Hanson; and two step-grandchildren, Seazon Hanson and Preston (Chelsea Goldade) Hanson, all of Schofield.



She is also survived by her siblings Carol Vint of Edgerton; Ethel Lambertus of St. Gabriel, LA; Pearl Etta (David) Utecht of Wausau; Mary Hosch of Oconto Falls and Mary (Howard) Schuettpelz of Pea Ridge, AZ; three sisters-in-law, Lola Lutzewitz of Bowler, Bernice Gosse of Abbotsford and Delila Hamel of Medford; also a special friend Darlene Kapitz of Wausau.



She is also survived by special nieces and nephews, Cynthia (Walter) Koschen and family who was her god child, Vicky (John) Necoise of Kiln, MS, Shirley (Bill) Anderson and family of Edgerton, WI, Ronnie (Elayne) Gosse of Abbotsford, Kay (Ronnie) Servant of Stanley, JoAnn (Keith) Stenberg of Merrill, Sarah and Rebecca Utecht of Wausau and many more nieces and nephews. Gladys and Sam’s beloved Springer spaniel, Buttons, also survives on.



She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Ernie and Herman (Bud) Lutzewitz; sister, Pearl JoAnna “Joanie” Radtke, her in-laws, Henry and Doris Gosse and brothers-in-law, Vic Gosse, Lloyd Hamel, George Vint, Jerry Radtke and Sammy Bahr, and sister-in-law, Ione Bahr.



Memorial services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau . Pastor Al Moen will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM and last until the time of services at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com .
