Geraldine Zimmermann

April 28, 1919 — November 11, 2009

Geraldine was born to the late Hubert and Elizabeth (Kolb) Schaut in Green Bay, WI on April 28, 1919. While visiting her uncle’s cheese factory, she met Adolph Zimmermann. They married on May 8, 1937 in Green Bay sharing a life together until Adolph’s passing in 1986. Geraldine prided herself as a “tough farm woman”, who enjoyed playing cards and entertaining her grandchildren throughout the years. She was an active member of the Zion Ladies Aid, Badger Homemaker Club, and was Superintendent of Vacation Bible School for many summers.


Survivors include her daughters, Gladys Langenhahn and Ellen Zimmermann both of Wausau; and her son, Garth Zimmermann of Appleton. She has 10 surviving grandchildren, Richard (Tammy) Langenhahn, Jeff (Nicole) Langenhahn, Tracey (Brad) Juedes, Dean (Jessica) Langenhahn, Todd (Shawn) Schepp, Kim (Reed) Gaines, Steve (Stacy) Schepp, Philip Zimmermann, Emma Zimmermann, and Mike Zimmermann. Geraldine has 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; siblings, Gladys, Milton and Grace; her granddaughter, Michelle; great-grandson, Mitchell; and son-in-law, Allen Langenhahn.


Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 16, 2009 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. The Reverend Steven Gjerde will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Monday at the funeral home and last until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the funeral service at Restlawn Memorial Park.


Geraldine’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Sylvan Crossing for the loving care of Geraldine for the past years. Also, to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for their compassionate care of Geraldine in her last days.
