Evelyn Marquardt

Evelyn Marquardt, 103, Wausau , died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center .



Evelyn Serene Johnson was born July 6, 1905 on the property of what is now Christ Lutheran Church to the late Anton and Anna (Erickson) Johnson. She attended school in town and later graduated from the normal school and received her teaching certificate. Evelyn taught school for a couple of years before marrying Alvin Marquardt June 29, 1927 in Wausau . Throughout their lives together, they enjoyed square dancing and playing cards. Four daughters were born to the happy couple: Doris, Carol, Susan, and Annette. Evelyn and Alvin celebrated forty-six loving years together prior to his death on December 22, 1973 .



Evelyn was a very strong Norwegian woman with a deep sense of faith and family. She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church and was also a member of both the Ladies Guild and Golden Friendship. When not working, Evelyn was a wonderful cook and excellent baker. In her free time she enjoyed knitting, one year knitting 75 pairs of slippers to be donated to the Health Care Center .



Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Carol Plautz, Susan Craft, and Annette (Gary) Natal all of Wausau; son-in-law, Niles (Donna) Gappa of Branson West, MO; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Helen Dudek of Wausau ; sister-in-law, Florence Johnson of La Mesa, CA; and many more extended family. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Doris Gappa; 2 sons-in-law, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.



Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Christ Lutheran Church , Wausau . Pastor Dave Wetmore will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Christ Lutheran Church and last until the time of services. There will be a private family committal in Pine Grove Cemetery at a later time.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Christ Lutheran Church Ladies Guild Kitchen Fund.
