Elroy Brandt

November 13, 1929 — December 24, 2014

Elroy Orin Brandt, 85, of Wausau, passed away on December 24, 2014, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Elroy was born November 13, 1929, in the Town of Halsey, son of the late William and Caroline (Metz) Brandt. On August 22, 1956, he married Ruth Wilde at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marathon.
Elroy was employed by Marathon Rubber for 42 years, retiring in 1991. Elroy was a member of the Wausau-/Merrill German Club and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans after serving in the army during the Korean War. Elroy was proud of his cottage that he built near Cedar Falls during his early retirement. He enjoyed collecting vintage model cars and tractors. He enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds that visited his home every day—the chipmunks—not so much.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, his daughters, Connie (Tom) DeLonay of Merrill and Susan (David) Schreiber of Wausau; grandsons Joshua and Mitchell Schreiber; eight step grandchildren; siblings, Germaine (Edward) Pagel, Rhinelander; Jean (Philip) Seliger, Paris, TN; Donald Brandt, Wausau; Marvin (Ann) Brandt, Iowa Park, TX; Earl Brandt, Rib Falls; and Delores (Don) Kapellen, Buchanan, TN; brothers in law and sisters in law, Jean (Gilbert) Wilde, Wausau, Lorraine (William) Wilde, Wausau; Jean (Dale) Wilde, Janesville, WI and Virene (Arlis) Cramer Wausau and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Many brothers in law and sisters in law passed away before him who also held a special place in Elroy's heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Pearl Biela, Annabelle Krueger, and Isabelle Weston.
Services will be held Monday, December 29, 2014, 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1104 S. 9th Ave., Wausau, officiated by Father Tom Huff. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services and also Sunday, December 28, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau.
