Dorothea Ross

December 24, 1914 — December 18, 2009

Dorothea Louise Nafziger Ross died peacefully December 18, 2009 with her grandson Douglas at her side.

Born December 24, 1914 to Arthur and Frances Nafziger, she would have celebrated her 95th birthday on Christmas Eve.

Dorothea married Russell R. Ross on August 18, 1940 in Bloomington, Illinois. They lived in Illinois, Indiana and Georgia before moving to Wausau in 1958 and later retiring to Sun City West, Arizona. After Russell’s death in 1988 Dorothea remained in Sun City West, where she had many friends, until 2003 when she returned to Wausau to be closer to her children.

Preceded in death by her husband Russell, brothers, Harold, Clint and Bill Nafziger and sister Evelyn Nafziger, she is survived by her two children Susan (Richard) Brodhead, Westfield, IN and R. Roger (Lee Ann) Ross, Tomahawk, four grandchildren; Ross (Jennifer) Brodhead, Elizabeth (Aaron) Starr, Douglas (Rebecca) Ross, and Robert (Amanda) Ross. She was blessed with and so very proud of her 12 great-grandchildren: Knox, Remington, Jeremiah, Sullivan & Landon Brodhead, Layne, Fisher & Jillian Starr, Erek, Kenton & Lora Ross and Jack Ross. She looked forward to the birth of her 13th great-grandchild (her “baker’s dozen”) in March. She is also survived by her youngest sister Beverly Miller of Bloomington, IL.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many, Dorothea will be greatly missed.

A memorial prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 28th at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel in Wausau. Visitation will precede the service from 9-10 a.m. Funeral & interment will take place in Bloomington, Illinois at a later date.
