Diane Merce

January 5, 1944 — February 24, 2015

Diane Jean Merce, 71, Schofield, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.

Diane was born January 5, 1944 in Wisconsin Rapids to the late Orville "Buck" and Harriet (Hipschman) Leverton. She is a 1962 graduate of Wausau High School. Diane married Lyle Geurink in September of 1963 and they raised three daughters: Kelly, Kristie and Kim. They later divorced. Diane married Bill Merce on May 28, 1994 at Mt. Calvary in Rothschild. Diane first worked as a beautician after graduating Cosmetology school, later spending most of her life working as a waitress at various restaurants in the Wausau area.

Diane loved to cook and bake, often making wonderful meals and baked goodies for her family. Early in her life, she was active in the Wausau Community Theater, having had the lead role in several productions. Free time often found Diane sitting in the sun reading, working on crafts, or working in her garden with Bill. She also had a great love of animals. Diane enjoyed sitting and watching the birds, but most of all she loved her dogs and the joy they brought to her life.

Diane is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Bill Merce; daughters, Kelly (Bill) Schremp, Kristie (Rich) Reichenberger, Kim (Jason) Van Galder; step-children, Cheryl (Wesley) Lattimer, Krystal (Kevin) Salzman, Matt (Jessica) Merce; grandchildren, Nicholas (Heather) Thomas, Cory (Tramain) Jarocki, Lindsey Van Galder, Kyle Van Galder, Anna Van Galder, Alix Reichenberger, Cole Reichenberger, Greg (Lexie) Schremp, Jeff Schremp, Maddy Lattimer and Miles Merce; great-grandchildren, Taylor Jarocki, Kenley Jarocki, Aubrey Jarocki, Christopher Thomas and Briella Schremp; sister, Maxine Leverton; uncle and aunt, Cecil and Mary Ann Leverton; dogs, Mitzi and Cooper; and extended family and friends.
