Delbert Stanton

June 30, 1910 — July 1, 2012

Delbert "Del" Stanton had a personal goal of celebrating his 102nd birthday on Saturday, June 30th. He did get to enjoy his birthday with his family and on Sunday, July 1st passed away peacefully to be with the Lord. Del was a longtime active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He lived a wonderful and full life and now joins his first wife Erna Brummond who passed away in 1963 and his second wife, Ilma (Larsen) Oertel who passed away in 1999. His secret to good health was a daily teaspoon of vinegar, a teaspoon of honey with a little warm water.
Del was born June 30, 1910 in Wausau to the late Henry and Clara (Lodholz) Stanton. He worked as a production planner for Marathon Electric. Del retired in 1975 after 42 years of service and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. Del loved fishing and spending time at his cottage in Hazelhurst. In his earlier years, Del enjoyed bowling, growing beautiful roses, and volunteering as a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club.
Survivors include his two sons, Robert (Katherine) Stanton of Wausau, Gary (Loretta) Stanton of Wausau, four grandchildren, Kevin (Denise) Stanton, Michelle (Cameron) Roberts, Alan and Krista Stanton, four great grandchildren, Carter and Trevor Stanton, Reece and Campbell Roberts, one step son, Charles (Helen) Oertel of Sycamore, PA, two step grandchildren, Linda (Charles) Rhodes and Margaret Oertel and one step great grandson, Michael Rhodes. Del was further preceded in death by a brother, David, and sister, Florence Thurs.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Reverend Philip Schneider will officiate. Burial will be at 9:00 a.m., Monday in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington St., Wausau, 54403.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Marywood Rehabilitation Center and Aspirus Palliative Care for the help, support, kindness and care they gave Del and our family.
Dad always said, "Don't Take Any Wooden Nickels."
