Charles Ortlieb

Charles Ortlieb is remembered as a man who truly loved his family. The love he had for his childhood sweetheart, Suzanne "Sally" Wendorf, grew into a marriage lasting nearly 60 years and blessed with three children, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In 2002, Charles and Suzanne celebrated 50 years of marriage by renewing their wedding vows in Honolulu, Hawaii surrounded by family.
Charles was born September 9, 1933 in Wausau to the late Henry and Esther (Graveen) Ortlieb. Charles attended Wausau Senior High School where he first met Suzanne. Not long after graduation, they were married on August 18, 1952. Charles and Suzanne moved to St. Point, where he worked for 38 years at Copps Corporation, first in the meat department and then as Dairy Director. After retiring, they built a home on Mable Lake in Tomahawk, with Charles working part- time for Ritt, Beyer, and Wier.
Some of his past times included traveling the world with visits to Greece, Hong Kong, China, Puerto Rico, and many places across the U.S. A. Charles loved playing cards with friends, cheering on the Packers, winning at the casinos, driving his Mustangs and Cadillacs and golfing in the yearly "Ortlieb Open".
At the age of 78, Charles passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012 in Wausau.
Survivors include Suzanne of Tomahawk, three daughters, Juliane (Michael) Washburn of Peshtigo, Jacqueline (Douglas) Christianson of Custer, Jenifer (Roy) Wolosek of Marathon, eight grandchildren, Laura (Greg) Ouimet, Mary Overzet, Josh Christianson, Kate (Tim) Walgren, Paul, Derek, Jillian and Juliet Wolosek, six great grandchildren, John, Anna, Eric, Henry, Reed and Mason and two brothers, David Ortlieb of Miami, Fl and Alan (Nancy) Ortlieb of Menomonie Falls. Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Corrine.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Reverend Mark Schoenherr of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tomahawk will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the mausoleum chapel on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
