Betsy Larson

Betsy F. Larson, 89, died June 30, 2009, at Aspirus Hospice House after an extended illness.





She was born March 4, 1920 in Oshkosh to the late Turner and Frances “Lula” (Hughes) Farrow. She married Martin A. Larson on July 6, 1945 in Oshkosh. They had resided in Wausau since 1942. She was preceded in death by Martin on December 7, 1992 and her brother, Robert H. Farrow of Savannah, GA in April of 1997.





Betsy is survived by her niece, Betsy F. Gunter of Canton, NC, and a nephew, Robert W. Farrow and his partner, Phillip R. Anderson of Asheville, NC, a nephew by marriage, Bob Larson and his wife , Carol Larson of Wausau, WI, two nieces by marriage, Joan Vilven and her husband, David Vilven of New Mexico and Carol Maddux of New Mexico, as well as two great nephews, Bryan McKay Gunter of Canton, NC and Parker Farrow Anderson of Asheville, NC and a great niece, Emily Grace Anderson of Asheville, NC.


She was a 1937 graduate of Oshkosh High and a 1941 graduate of Whitewater College in Business Education. Betsy taught typing and short hand at Wausau High for five years and business classes at Wausau Technical School for 6 ½ years.





Betsy had been very active in her church, the Christian Science Society and her community. She was a Wausau (presently Aspirus) Hospital Volunteer for 44 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star (1958-Worthy Matron), Elk Ladies, YWCA, and YWCA Garden Club. She was still an active sister in P.E.O. On June 16th, her P.E.O. Sisters honored her with a tea at Aspirus Hospice House hosted by Barbara Powell and Maggie Lawton. Through the years, Betsy had enjoyed bridge, camping at Trout Lake, cross country skiing, curling, fishing, gardening, golf, ice fishing and skiing.





She was greatly loved by her friends and family. Betsy was the very essence of compassion, duty, loyalty, and optimism. She always had a magical smile and a twinkle in her eyes. She had a personality that sparkled.





A memorial service will be held at the YWCA in Wausau at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9. Harvey Scholfield of the Christian Science Society will be officiating. Helke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
