Arlene R. Christian, born to the late Bernard and Anna (Pruss) Helmke July 9, 1919 in the town of Hamburg, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2010 at the age of 91.
Arlene married Floyd Christian at St. John’s Lutheran Church, town of Hamburg, September 27, 1941, and moved to their family dairy farm in the Town of Maine which they operated together until retirement.
Arlene was known as a kind, thoughtful and generous woman. Prior to her marriage, she was employed in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Wausau. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, reading and baking.
Together they enjoyed going to local dances, listening to various bands, visiting and playing cards with friends and relatives. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, town of Maine since 1941.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Christian and Bonnie (Chuck) Lawrence, one step granddaughter, Claire (Benoit) Meney all of Wausau and two step great grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by Floyd on June 30, 2001 and her brother, Eldor Helmke.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church, 6655 Cty Hwy A in the town of Maine. Reverend Nathaniel Biebert will officiate. Burial will be in the Town of Berlin Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services. Helke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
