Service of Remembrance and Family Remembrance Picnic

At Helke Funeral Home and Cremation Service we invite members of the community to attend two separate services each year, to help bring comfort to those attending and to keep the memory of a loved one alive and close to our hearts.  

The Holiday Service of Remembrance entitled "When Holiday's Hurt", offered by Wings and Helke Funeral Home, will be held on separations, and endless other events that cause us pain. Often we feel like we are on the outside looking in – and it just doesn’t make sense at all. Recently, something has changed your life and the way you probably view the celebration of the holidays, as well as other special occasions. When your loved one dies, we struggle with finding reasons, purpose and hope.  There is no answer about how you can “survive’ this holiday or other events of celebration. The way you approach the holiday and other occasions will determine how stressful it will be. Part of your approach will depend upon the choices you make. You can choose to be miserable and unhappy, or you can choose to participate by modifying those traditions that cause pain. Make them a little more “comfortable”. The truth is – we can’t run away from this “change” in our life. Somehow we must adjust and move through the days as we re-establish the roots of life. 

Helpful suggestions will be given for soothing the pain of holidays and special occasions. It doesn’t take away the pain or minimize the loss. But, by modifying the traditions, even slightly, it may become easier to accept the celebration of others.

The Family Remembrance Picnic is an informal event where we invite family members to join us at Riverside Park in Wausau.  This remembrance is also centered around keeping memories of loved ones in our hearts.  Families attending will enjoy a short service followed by a balloon release.  The event is held in August each year.  A light luncheon and refreshments are provided following the event.
